Summer Street Ambassador
Job Title: Summer Street Ambassador
Salary: $15.00 per hour,
Schedule: 35 hours per week requiring regular Saturdays and Sundays

The Downtown Dartmouth Street Ambassador will join a small team of full time and summer employees at the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission in the development and delivery of summer programs. The Street Ambassador will create and maintain a clean, welcoming and safe environment in downtown Dartmouth. The Street Ambassador will work cooperatively with other members of the team to maintain streets and sidewalks within the defined areas of the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission. The Street Ambassador is a representative of Downtown Dartmouth, and will greet people on the street and will answer all inquiries for information with courtesy. The Street Ambassador will also have numerous opportunities to engage with the general public and the downtown Dartmouth business community. The DDBC is an equal opportunity employer.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Promote a clean environment in downtown Dartmouth by maintaining streets and sidewalks with the downtown Dartmouth core business district. Removal of all forms of litter and garbage on sidewalks, curbs and gutters throughout downtown Dartmouth. Report any infrastructure damage such as – damaged or worn looking banners, planter boxes, benches, bike racks, litter bins, newspaper boxes, mailboxes, buildings burned out street lights, cracks in sidewalks, loose bricks, broken trees, graffiti, illegal garbage dumps to DDBC management. Assist with the graffiti removal program, and report problem areas to office staff for follow up. Provide information regarding waste management and recycling to downtown Dartmouth businesses. Wipe down picnic tables and street furniture as required.
Promote Tourism and Economic Development of Downtown Dartmouth by providing information and assistance to residents, tourists and visitors to enhance their experience.
Post photos and information on social media as directed
Reporting to work on time, in uniform, and with a positive attitude
Hosting visitors at a local wood fired community oven in a municipal park, maintain the fire, assist people using the oven and provide information on local food sources and local attractions - The student will receive instruction on the use of the oven and applicable safety training
Other duties as required:
Client Service – The Downtown Dartmouth Street Ambassador will have the opportunity to develop their client service skills and ability to communicate efficiently and professionally through their daily interactions with business owners, residents and tourists while performing their duties on the street, occasionally staffing our Visitor Information Kiosk, hosting the Community Oven and by assisting with the management the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission’s Social Media channels for the summer.
Teamwork – The Downtown Dartmouth Street Ambassador will join a small team of full time and summer employees at the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission in the development and delivery of summer programs.
Communication - The Downtown Dartmouth Street Ambassador will have the opportunity to develop communication skills through their duties on the street interacting with business owners, residents and tourists, staffing the Visitor Information Kiosk, hosting the Community Oven and delivering marketing materials from the DDBC to the business community in the downtown. (some activities dependent on COVID-19 restrictions)
