NOCTURNE IN DOWNTOWN DARTMOUTH

October 13-15, 2022

With live activations on Saturday, October 15 from 7-9:30PM

WHAT IS NOCTURNE?

Nocturne is an independent, free, contemporary art festival in Kjipuktuk/Halifax presented by the Nocturne: Art at Night Society founded in 2008. The festival brings art and energy to the streets of our city showcasing and celebrating the visual arts scene in Mi'kma'ki/Nova Scotia. In addition to the festival, the society oversees a collection of arts programming utilizing the same mentality that art can be anywhere.

Nocturne, designed and planned largely by volunteers, is an opportunity for everyone to experience the art of Kjipuktuk/Halifax in a whole new light. You can learn more about Nocturne on their website: https://nocturnehalifax.ca

KALEIDOSCOPE

In line with the Nocturne theme of Legacies this year, Dartmouth presents Kaleidoscope. A play on both our light-based exhibits and the “cultural mosaic” of Canada, the kaleidoscope represents the diversity of Dartmouth’s history and how it contributes to the continuous evolution of our beautiful community.

A kaleidoscope requires many different pieces to produce its intricate designs, and it also possesses the potential for infinite change, infinite beauty. A beauty that is brought to life by manipulation of light.

We hope the light of our Nocturne exhibits will bring to life the beauty that exists in downtown Dartmouth all year round and its infinite possibilities. Find fire dancers, light box projections, and more.

A WALK IN THE WOODS: LIGHTBOXES BY ARNIE GUHA
