DARTMOUTH ORIGINALS - MEET SHANNON
Shannon Marshall is the owner of Indulgence Intimate Apparel in downtown Dartmouth. She has served on the DDBC Board of directors since 2017. Shannon has been an energizing and welcome addition to our team, in fact she was instrumental in nudging our organization to super-charge our social media and online communication strategies so we can better connect with people.
“I want to practice what I preach. I want a strong community, so I give a lot of my time to working on projects and strategies that make this a beautiful neighborhood. Downtown Dartmouth has come so far and the DDBC has done so much, it’s incredibly rewarding to be involved.”
Shannon says being owner/operator of her own business is fulfilling as well. She describes Indulgence Intimate Apparel as a feel-good space for women. The shop sells everything a woman might need for an “enjoyable” evening - alone or with a partner. Everything she sells is top quality and tested by women.
“The biggest hurdle is to get women in the door for the first time. But once they come in, they are greeted with a lovely space, lovely smells and good music. And a friendly face behind the counter.”
Shannon says she is a master of discretion. She does everything she can do make the space comfortable, especially for women, but EVERYONE is welcome. Nothing is taboo. No question is too personal.
“I have helped women shop for lingerie for the first time since undergoing mastectomy. I have heard women weep with joy from the changeroom, as they see themselves as beautiful, even though they’ve undergone trauma and changes beyond their control.”
Shannon has a gift for finding the good in a difficult situation. The business was created during the 2008 economic crisis, when Shannon lost her job in the insurance industry. Seeing a lack of quality intimate products available locally, she made her move. Eleven years later, she’s not looking back, only forward – even in the midst of a global pandemic.
“My business is steadily growing, and I’d love to find new ways to widen my audience. I’d love to build out my online education videos. My goal for the business is to reach as many people as possible, to help them take care of themselves. To help as many people as possible feel good.”
