Shop Downtown this December
Downtown Dartmouth has come alive with exciting independent retailers who offer shoppers the best opportunities to find the perfect gifts. “Downtown Dartmouth has everything you need for last minute Christmas shopping: unique gifts, flowers, balloons, gifts certificates from restaurants or spas and gift wrap, you can find it downtown,” said Tim Rissesco, executive director of the Downtown Dartmouth Business Commission. “Downtown is also a great place to spend time with family and friends throughout the season, catch a performance at the theatre, dine out or enjoy a walk along one of our park trails.” If chic and unique are must-haves on your holiday list, then head straight to Kept. The shop on Portland Street is an independently owned boutique which offers an edited array of goodies for the home. “Kept brings you items to be treasured. Stocking home accessories, paper goods, jewelry and confections, we search for the perfect blend of well made unique items that reflect your personal style,” said Charlotte Jewer, owner of Kept. “This Christmas, we have packed the store with treasures we have found from near and far. Kept has everything you want to give – and get!" Check out Kept on their website www.keptshop.ca, Twitter feed: @KeptShop, Instagram and Facebook. For the women on your list who are expecting even more in the new year, or recently received a precious gift then make sure to stop by Hazelnut & Rose on Queen Street. This shop is dedicated to the pregnancy and breastfeeding period of a mom’s life. It offers maternity and nursing clothes and accessories, some of which are actually designed to be worn for both pregnancy and nursing. “I carry companies that pay attention to style, quality, and fabrics: organic cotton, bamboo, and lyocell - which is made from fast growing eucalyptus,” said Genny Shaw, owner. “These clothes wash well, wear well and look great. In a body that is constantly changing it is uplifting to have clothing that you feel comfortable in, that grows with you and that can withstand lots of wear.” Shaw has recently partnered with Katharina Reed of Passionate About Birth to provide free, one hour pre-natal classes right here in the store. Shaw said the classes have been very well received and she has just confirmed more dates for the new year. “The new year will also bring a variety of new community interaction into the store,” Shaw said. “I am currently figuring out logistics for a pre-natal yoga class as well as a mom and baby drop-in. Stay tuned! Information will go up on my community page soon http://www.hazelnutandrose.com/community.” Even a tattoo can fit in a stocking. Obsidian Body Studio on Ochterloney Street has a holiday season special right now: $50 gift cards for $40. The gift cards are good for spa services, tattoos and products.
